MANSFIELD -- Lawrence Eugene Wharton, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital.

Larry passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Larry was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Mansfield to the late Clifford and Gladys Heichel Wharton.
He was a staff sergeant in WW II, serving at the Battle of the Bulge in Germany and in the Philippines. Until his retirement in 1995, he was employed at Dominion, Mansfield Tire, and Sherwin-Williams.

He was always a loving, giving, and humorous father, husband, brother and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lundgren Wharton, whom he married Nov. 13, 1947; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara (Lester) Tucker, and Debra (Thomas) Cowell; three sons and daughters-in-law, David, Gary (Pam), and Mark (Diane) Wharton, all of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don and Jerry Wharton; and two sisters, Evangeline Yarman, and Lillian Conard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard; brother Carl; and sister, Eleanor.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home, conducted by Father John Brennen. Military graveside will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park conducted by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
