Edward Koranda

Edward Koranda, 886, of Zion died Monday, August 30, 2004 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan.

Edward was born June 30, 1918 in Berwyn, Illinois. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelors degree, and Northwestern University with a Masters degree. and on April 11, 1963, he married Lorna V. Plummer Whitten. For 38 years he taught Chemistry and Physics at Zion-Benton Township High School He was a member of the Lake County Retired Teachers Association, and a former Winthrop Harbor and Zion School Board Member. Edward was also involved in the Veteran's Association of U.S.S. Iowa, North Shore and Chicago Military Officers Association, Navy League, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He also served as a past board member of Family Services, was a Founding Member of the Winthrop Harbor Volunteer Fire Fighters, as well as a former Waste Management Board member, and a Retired Naval Officer.

Survivors include his wife, Lorna V. Plummer Whitten Koranda; three daughters, Janet Whitten (Owen) Kinsman, Kris Koranda (Gale) Moline and Patti Koranda (Bob) Wills; two grandchildren, Tami Kinsman (Dan) Imbery and Rob Kinsman; and two great grandchildren, Alyssa and Hailey Imbery. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Schwab; step son, Robert Whitten; three brothers, Tony, Vincent; and his parents, Anton and Josepha (Knez) Koranda.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2004 at 11 AM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion with Pastor Paul Gerardy officiating. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of the service. Memorial donations to your favorite charity have been suggested.
