Henry Joseph DeWindt, 98, Oconto, died March 11, 2000 at the Oconto Falls
Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
He was born February 23, 1902 at Oconto to the late Peter and Louise (Werrebroeck)
DeWindt. Henry married Mary DePouw September 4, 1923. She preceded him in death
on March 10, 1983. Henry operated a dairy farm all his life in the Town of
Oconto. After retiring from farming he was a carpenter for a number of years.
Henry was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and a past Trustee of the Church. He
as a member of the Knights of Columbus and Past Grand Knight of Chapter No.
1475. Henry loved baseball and was coach manager of the Cream City Baseball Team
for a number of years.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris (Don) Rhode; two sons, Leon (Barbara)
DeWindt and Edward (Elsie) DeWindt all of Oconto; a sister-in-law, Mabel DePouw,
Oconto; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and five great great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; two sons, Donald
and Raymond; a daughter, Erna; three brothers and a sister.
Friends called Monday at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto. Knights of Columbus
Rosary and a parish wake service was held at the funeral home. Mass of Christian
Burial was celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at Holy Trinity Parish,
St. Joseph Site with Rev. David C. Ruby officiating. Burial at Oconto Catholic
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Holy
Trinity Perish Building Fund.
